Hello,

I don’t want to use my table saw as a TIG welding table any longer, I am looking to acquire a 5×3 welding table but I don’t have any knowledge about steel alloys, and the information seems hard to come by online. Perhaps I am googling the wrong keywords.

Thank you!

  1. most are thick cast iron with cast in square holes for fixturing to be mounted in. They are called welding platens.

  2. you are best using 5 to 6 mm mild steel for the table top and building the frame out angle steel. reason for mild steel is cause you can easily grind the top down with any welds accidentally to the table. :o )

  3. Go to. There is a clickable map at the bottom of the page for distributors of welding products. Find the distributor closest to you from the directory and give them a call.

  4. If you make the table top thin like a 1/4″ it will bow up in the middle from the constant heat from welding and from banging things on it. I would make it at least 1/2″ thick if not 1″ (1020 steel) so it will stay flat. Make it from mild steel so you can weld to it for fixturing and can easily grind it off. take a look at this site for some table ideas,
