Do any generators or powerplants have transmissions the way vehicles do? If not, why is it that cars need transmission but generators and powerplants don’t?

I just picked up a small (1200 Watt) generator to go on a rather cold camping trip here in Florida. I might want to use the generator to charge up a battery or two but don’t plan on running it all night. Do state parks generally allow the generators? It makes about as much noise as a small lawnmower.

Does anyone know if generators are allowed at campsites in national parks in the United States? I searched the National Park Service website, but couldn’t find any overall policy statements regarding generators–just a couple of specific cases and exceptions. Thanks!

So, I have one of those speech generators. It sounds good and all. Well, as much as you’d expect a speech generator to sound.
What I’m looking for is a speech generator that can change words and pitch with every note I press on my MIDI keyboard. Any thoughts?

We lose power often in our town (basically every time there is bad weather) and we are tired of everything getting spoiled so we are thinking of getting a generator.

Anyone know the best type to get? How much they generally cost?

I guess we just need one that would back of the fridge and some lights (doesn’t need to power the whole house because when we move we want to be able to take it).

Yeah it would have to be less than $1000, we can’t afford anything too expensive.
