How to know if a battery is still good just by looking at it?

i’ve got so many of those darn batteries laying around all over the place… the good and the bad all mixed up together… NOW WHAT?

oh yah… i don’t want to spend any money on battery testing equipment… that would just be too silly….

i’m sure there’s a smarty pants out there with an answer…

    Uh, if you don’t want to spend a few bucks on a battery tester, you must not have that great a desire to see which batteries are good.

    I heard something about using your tongue for this, but I don’t know how reliable it is.

    SIMPLY LOOKING AT THE BATTERY IS NO INDICATION OF THE AMOUNT OF POWER THAT REMAINS IN IT.
